Affiliations

American College of Veterinary Surgeons
Following the 2005 certification examination, the ACVS includes more than 1,150 Diplomates. Approximately 50 veterinarians earn their Diplomate credentials every year. Over half of the ACVS Diplomates operate specialty practices and accept cases on a referral basis from primary care practitioners. The remainder are primarily employed by academic institutions and industry where they teach, conduct research, practice in teaching hospitals, and participate in the development of new products and treatments which improve the quality of veterinary and human health care.

New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association
The New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association is a trade association that strives to promote the veterinary profession and advance the science and art of veterinary medicine. The NJVMA was established in 1884 and represents the state’s 1,600 licensed veterinarians.

American Veterinary Medical Association
The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), established in 1863, is a not-for-profit association representing more than 73,000 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia, and uniformed services. Structured to work for its members, the AVMA acts as a collective voice for its membership and for the profession.

Veterninary Schools

Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine
The School of Veterinary Medicine was established in 1945 and has been accredited by the Council on Education of the American Veterinary Medical Association since 1949. A professional four-year course leading to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) degree was begun with the entering class in September of 1945; the first class graduated in 1949. A graduate program was organized in August, 1971.

Univeristy of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine
The College of Veterinary Medicine was established by an act of the Tennessee Legislature in 1974. The College is part of the University of Tennessee statewide system and is located on the Agricultural Campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
